The Chicago Harbor Lighthouse protects the entrance to the Chicago Harbor, directly east of Grant Park, near Navy Pier. The white and red lighthouse stands as a beacon that has greeted sailors since its construction in 1893 and has been a familiar sight to generations of Chicagoans. According to Wikipedia, the lighthouse was built for the World's Columbian Exposition of 1893 and then moved to its current location after the end of the fair. Its operations are now fully automated and on a clear day its red light can be seen from 24 miles away. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated an official Chicago Historic Landmark in 2003.
Thanks to Jose Manuel for modeling the railings and crown of the lighthouse.
