Anhalter Bahnhof is the name of three train stations in Berlin, Germany. The first terminus was built between 1839 and 1841. This building was demolished in 1875, and the better-known second building was constructed between 1876 and 1880. It was the biggest train station in continental Europe by that time. In November 1943, the Anhalter Bahnhof, along with other buildings like the Krolloper or the Ausstellungspalast, was badly damaged. In 1945, two other raids devastated the terminus. This beautiful building was demolished in 1960-61, only the central part of the facade was left standing. Finally, "Anhalter Bahnhof" is also the name of a S-Bahn station near the site. / (c) Generalfeldmarschall.
