|
Lubenice is a small walled town on the island of Cres in Croatia. While Lubenice has been settled continuously since the bronze age over 4,000 years ago, there are currently only 24 permanent residents. Despite its small population, Lubenice has five chapels and churches, including the Chapel of St. Stephen at the town cemetary. The chapel of St. Stephen sits with the rest of Lubenice on top of a 378m cliff (not sliding off of the cliff as Google Earth shows it), and offers breathtaking views of the Adriatic below. The chapel may date from the 15th century. Lubenice has been submitted by the government of Croatia for consideration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
