CADIS/CRATE 2006 of the University of Arkansas was tasked to provide information for the city of Fayetteville, Arkansas. The team created a 3D virtual map of the buildings on and around Dickson Street and the Square, the heart of Fayetteville. The project team members custom-created each building in the "master plan" area of Fayetteville which consists of about 1500 buildings. The goal was to create an interactive 3D virtual map of the Master Plan District so that future development could be visualized in its context. 3D modeling was done with SketchUp using building footprint data acquired from the City of Fayetteville, LIDAR-derived elevation data, and building measurements from Pictometry "bird's-eye view" data. Each building within the district was constructed and photos were applied as the textures.
