It is a gravity anchored suspension 1,560m-long bridge with steel pylons and inclined hangers. The aerodynamic deck is hanging on zigzag steel cables. The distance between the towers (main span) is 1,074 m and their height is about 165 m. The clearance of the bridge from sea level is 64 m. The bridge was completed on 30 October 1973 and since then it has not encountered any serious problems. The First Bosporus Bridge was designed by Freeman Fox & Partners - company which built its international reputation in the field of bridges and highways also (renamed as "Hyder Consulting" in 1996).
