The Arlington project had been abandoned by Starfleet in the 2340's. The idea had been to construct a warp capable starbase. Unfortunately, the project was mothballed because of material requirements and engneering problems. After the Borg Invasion of 2381, the fleet was in ruin and operable ship were spread rather thin. After the invasion, Starfleet ordered all bebris from destroyed Borg vessels to be brought to Earth for examination. After material was examined, it was sent to be used to build the Arlington. In their examinations, scientists found the transwarp coils in the debris were still operable. They took an idea to The Corps of Engineers to install transwarp on the Arlington. The project also sported ablative armour generators,and repair bays for damaged ships, the largest bay aft, designed to hold the Galaxy class. The Arligton was a full fleet servicing, warp capable starbase. The vessel was named after the Arlington cemetery on Earth. This ship was built out of the very ships that tried to annihilate The United Federation of Planets. The vessel is a memorial to the Federation and to all those whose being a part of it and defending it.
