The new Rügen Bridge, also called Strelasund Crossing, connects the island of Rügen with the mainland since its opening at October 20th, 2007. The bridge is a part of the Rügen feeder road, which leads from the Baltic Sea Autobahn to Rügen Island and was designed by architect André Keipke and Schüßler-Plan . The suspension bridge`s main spans are 126 m and 198 m. The slim pylon consists of two dop-shaped piers who rest on a concrete plinth. With more than 4 km in length it is the longest bridge in Germany.
