The HSBC Bank Building, formerly the Marine Midland Bank Building, was designed by famous architect Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP. The building is 688 feet tall. Construction completed in 1967 as the Marine Midland Bank Building. Located in front of the building is the sculpture "Red Cube", created by Japanese-American artist Isamu Noguchi. In 1980, HSBC purchased 51% of Marine Midland Bank's shares, and by 1987, held 100% ownership of Marine Midland Bank, taking control of all of its branches and renaming to HSBC Bank USA, N.A.
