Originally slated to be built 100 feet west of its current position, Agronomy Hall (as it was originally named) at the Iowa State University, was relocated after opposition was raised to placing the building in the middle of the central campus lawn. Plans for construction of the 102,000 square foot building started in 1902, but actual construction did not begin until nearly 1907. Proudfoot and Bird was the architect of record, while H.W. Schlueter won the contractor bid with a building cost of $212,000 (not including the east assembly hall). Soon thereafter, contracts were signed for the addition of the east assembly hall, but the contractor declared bankruptcy. The building was completed in 1909 by a bonding company, but remained vacant until 1912 when lawsuits were settled. In 1947, the building was renamed Curtiss Hall in honor of the long-time dean of the College of Agriculture. Today, Curtiss Hall houses the Department of Agriculture administration and some agriculture and anthropology departments. This model was completed by Andrew Temeyer.
