Help Group Discussion • Diamond • 'Tolkowsky' (Tolkowski) cut • Also known as 'Ideal' cut • 57 facets • Original cut designed in the 1920's • By today's standards, the modern 'Ideal' cut uses a slightly larger 'table' facet of ~60% of the overall diameter (rather than 53%, as used by Tolkowsky) • The model was produced from angles and relative proportions provided by an image file • The cut plane angles for the primary facets are used to draw planes, which are then rotated in 45° increments around the 'table' facet • Edges are then drawn at the intersections of the radial planes • All other facets are then produced using basically the same intersection method • Note that model was produced using the numerical angles and proportions printed in the image, not from the image itself • The image does not quite correspond to the numerical definitions • Since the numerical data seemed more precise, the image itself was not used for measurements • Construction/intersection technique is demonstrated in the 'Crown' and 'Pavilion' layers
