Built in 1997, designed by Portland architect Bill Church (Hamblin Hattan Architects PC), it mimics the style of Stanford White's "Newport Casino" in Rhode Island. Many subtle touches (courtesy of Howard McKee) include Oregon made/designed furniture, wrought ironwork that suggests the Celtic traditions of golf, and the famous "standing stones" in the lobby (from the modeler's home town). The lodge includes a pro shop, two bars, an exercise facility, a complete dining facility and 27 luxury hotel units. The modeler makes an annual "pilgrimage" every April to play a Ryder Cup style event with friends, called the "Dunes Cup". Bandon Dunes truly represents "golf the way it was meant to be".
