The Gottorp Castle in Schleswig is one of the most important castles in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. In the course of its history it has been altered and extended several times. Gottorp Castle was first mentioned in 1161 AD, the northern and western wings were built in Renaissance Style around 1530 AD, from 1565 the complex was developed as a four-winged fortress. Around 1700 AD the old castle got a reshape in Baroque Style. Today it houses two State Museums and the Schleswig-Holsteinische Landesmuseen Foundation.
