The 30th Street Station is the main railroad station in Philadelphia, and is one of the busiest intercity passenger railroad facilities in the US. The station is located near the heart of Philadelphia, just west of the Schuylkill River. The station opened in 1933, during the Great Depression. Graham, Anderson, Probst & White, a Chicago-based architecture firm, designed the station with a post & beam aesthetic displaying an apparent transformation from the dominant neo-classicism to a more modern style. The station incorporated a chapel, a mortuary, and a large hospital space, which were all new to station design during that time. The roof was constructed with reinforced concrete above the concourse section in order to accommodate the landing of small aircraft. The 30th Street Station is now owned by Amtrack, with service from SEPTA, Amtrak and New Jersey Transit. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has been featured in major films such as Trading Places (1983), Witness (1985), and Unbreakable (2000). Model by Noel Nemcik.
