This building has been built in 1929, introducing the skyscrapers in Europe. With 15 floors and near to 90 meters height, it was the highest building in Spain for three decades, until the construction of the Edificio España in the nearby Plaza de España. The architect Ignacio de Cárdenas Pastor combined the functional reinforced concrete structure of the contemporary american skyscrapers with local baroque decoration in the facade. The Telefonica’s former corporate headquarters are now being remodeled to house a Telecommunications Museum and a new technology store.
