The Berlin Altes Palais ("Old palace") was built between 1834 and 1837, following the plans of architect Carl Ferdinand Langhans in a neoclassical style. The palace was opened to the public as a memorial shortly after Kaiser Wilhelm's death. In November 1943, the Altes Palais was badly damaged by a fire caused by the Allied bombing of Berlin. The building was reconstructed first in 1963, and later in 2003.
