Fundamental geodesic configuration • This is how the Biosphère would appear, as a full sphere • This basic geometry was modified, first by truncating to a 3/4 sphere, then modifying strut geometry below the "equator" to provide struts parallel to the ground • The biosphere was originally built as the United States pavilion of the 1967 World Exposition, designed by Richard Buckminster Fuller and architect, Shoji Sadao • The outer shell (blue) is a 16-frequency, class I tessellation of the icosahedron • The inner shell (red) is a 32-frequency, class II icosahedron tessellation • The struts in-between (yellow,) connecting the inner and outer shells, produce a unified tetrahedral-truss structure
