This nice hotel in the hart of the Art Deco district is located right next to the Bass Museum of Art. The location and the trendy bar attract lots of happy costumers, but those aren´t the only great things about the building. It´s also a great example of Hohausers architecture and Art Deco. The construction is set up much like the Claremont hotel on the cormer of Collins ave and 17th st. The entrance is placed in the angled facade on the street corner. Though that facade is way more narrow than usual front facades of Art Deco hotels, it is still tripratite (with a little fantasy). The two extruded side pillars are supposed to be the wings, while the central bay is kept back. Which is strange, because in normal tripartite facades it's just the other way around. With a bass-reliëf decoration above the windows in the central bay and the two 'pagodas' on top of the wings, it almost looks like some sort of chinese Art Deco. Also the contrast between brown and darkyellow gives it an Azian look. The original 8-paned windows have been replaced by ordinary 4-paned ones, but the eyebrows stretching over them are still intact. Also take a look at the facade on the left of the cornered front; we can see there a beautiful piece of bass-reliëf decoration. Henry Hohauser, 1937
