Construction began in 1793 for what would become the headquarters and meeting place of the United States Congress and the legislature of the Federal government of the US. Boasting 16.5 acres in floor area, the Capitol Building is situated atop Capitol Hill and the eastern end of the National Mall in Washington D.C.
