By 1861, the year Wilhelm I was coronated King of Prussia in Königsberg Castle (Gr. Königsberger Schloß), the building was more than only the walls and towers of the Teutonic fortress. Königsberg Castle had incorporated the old defensive structure (dating from the 15th century), the "Schlosskirche" (built between 1584 and 1594) and some recent parts built in the early 19th century. The Allied bombings (especially those by the RAF) caused the Schloss to burn down, although the walls remained standing like German oaks until 1968, when this jewel, called "a symbol of Prussian fascism" by the Soviets, was erased from Earth.
