Citypalace Mauritshuis was built between 1633 and 1644 by Jacob van Campen and Pieter Post in Dutch-classicism style. The building was built for count Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen. It served as 'Hotel van Staat' for high guests of the Staten-Generaal in the 17th and 18th century. The building has been a museum since 1822, when it became the Koninklijk Kabinet. Nowadays mostly 17th century paintings from the Dutch 'Golden Century' are displayed in this Rijksmuseum. 'The girl with the pearl earring' by Johannes Vermeer and 'Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp' by Rembrandt van Rijn are two of the paintings in the Mauritshuis collection.
