At 9:44pm on Friday 13 January, 2012, the $600M Costa Concordia cruise liner with around 4,197 people on board struck rocks off the island of Giglio, Italy and partially sank. Thirty two people lost their lives. The ship had departed from the Italian port of Civitavecchia around two and a half hours earlier for a 7-day cruise. The accident happened before the standard safety drill had been held. NB. A fully animated recreation of the final voyage called "Costa Concordia Disaster Animation" is available in the 3D Warehouse.
