The Makohine viaduct is the 7th highest railway viaduct in New Zealand with a hight of 72.5 m and a length of 229 m. It is situated between Marton and Mangaweka on the North Island Main Trunk Line. This viaduct is of steel girder construction and is a well-known landmark for road users of State Highway 1. Erection of steel for the first pier began in April 1900.
