Alton railway station was a railway station in the village of Alton, Staffordshire, UK.The station opened on 13 July 1849. It was closed to passengers and goods in 1964 following the Beeching Axe. Its platforms were particularly long, due to the earl of Shrewsbury wanting an impressive platform for his guests to arrive on.
