Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is a service organization comprised of approximately 440 full-time employees. Average of 100 students is employed throughout the year, peaking at nearly 200 during the summer months. Full-time employees include accountants, arborists, architects, area mechanics, boiler operators, carpenters, clerks, computer technicians, custodians, drafters, electricians, engineers, equipment operators, groundskeepers, interior designers, laborers, landscape architects, locksmiths, mechanics, painters, planners, plumbers, secretaries, system control technicians, tree trimmers, etc. Facilities Planning is responsible for managing changes to the university facilities to enable departments to meet the mission and goals of the institution. These efforts include all of the project activities to bring about improvements to existing space and to construct new buildings; including pre-planning analysis, building programming, design, and construction. Three units of Planning Services, Architectural and Engineering Services, and Construction Services within Facilities Planning share these responsibilities. This model was completed by Xin Li.
