The Bass Museum of Art is an art museum located in Miami Beach, Florida in the United States located at 2121 Park Avenue. The museum specializes in art from around the world from the Renaissance to modern art. The Bass Museum was founded in 1963 by the City of Miami Beach from a private donation by art collectors John and Johanna Bass, and occupies the 1930s Miami Beach Public Library and Art Center. It is regarded as one of Miami's best museums for ancient art alongside the Lowe Art Museum and the Wolfsonian-FIU Museum.
The Museum creates and presents borrowed exhibitions from national and international collections in order to stimulate tourism and provide an important cultural destination for Miami Beach. Collection highlights include Contemporary art, 19th century paintings, and Asian art.
Artists represented at this art museum include Cornelis van Haarlem, Peter Paul Rubens and Studio, Ferdinand Bol, Benjamin West and Armand Guillaumin. The original 1930s building was designed in Art Deco style. Large decoration panels as well as small details refer to 1930s nautical Miami Beach architecture. On the front we can see flying birds carved into the corners. The addition around the back was competed in the 1990s.
