First mentioned in the year 1357, the Sabelpoort in Arnhem was one of the four defensive towers of Arnhem and the only one left. In 1440 the two towers got rebuilt into the style theyre in still today. Under the inside gate there used to be a prison where also the occasional mad man was held. Remarkably the towers did not sustain much damage during the Battle Of Arnhem which raged only a 100 yards to the east. Eventhough everything else around the Sabelpoort was raised to the ground, the towers stood firm.
