Hamilton Hall opened in 1940 as the Collegiate Press Building, and was renamed the Press Building in 1956. The original occupants of the building included offices for student publications such as the Bomb, the Iowa State Daily Student, the Iowa Homemaker, the Iowa Engineer, and the Iowa Agriculturist. Currently Hamilton Hall is home to the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication and the Iowa State Daily as well as offices for faculty and advisors, classrooms, laboratories, study rooms, a reference library, and photography facilities. The building was renamed in 1984 in honor of Carl Hamilton, head of Technical Journalism at Iowa State University for three years, head of University Relation for two years, and Vice President of Information and Development for seventeen years. The building has had four additions through the years the most recent completed in 2003 by OPN Architects. This model was completed by Benjamin Schwartz.
