"Schanzmauer" is the name of the southwestern part of Weißenburg's city wall. It means the outer (newer) ring erected from 1376. At its eastern end the Frauentor ("women's gate") was formerly located until it was torn down in 1878 to widen the street which runs out of the city. The small houses in the wall's inner side are now mainly private homes. [Some photos by courtesy of Fam. Stoian.]
