The second longest suspension span in the world links two Danish islands together. The Great Belt bridge was constructed between 1991 and 1998. The main span is 1624 meters long and is suspended from two 254 meter tall concrete pylons. The total length of the bridge including approach and side spans is 6790 meters. Vertical clearance is 65 meters below the center span. The deck is made of hollow steel box sections and carries four road lanes. Approximately 27,600 vehicles cross the bridge every day.
