The Norm Thompson Headquarters is home to the clothing company's general administrative offices and the creative department for catalog production. Considering the wetland site that was selected and Norm Thompson's history in the fly-fishing business, a timely suggestion was made that the theme "a river runs through it" would serve as a fitting metaphor for the building's design. The essence of the phrase evolved into meandering corridors with unmatched walls (reminiscent of a stream), canted non-parallel walls in the central hallway (a gorge), canted walls in the lobby (a lodge in the gorge), and CEO John Emrick's inspiration for the second-floor cabled railing above the lobby (a suspension bridge).
