Submission Guidelines

Collection and model descriptions must be in English.

Step 1: Create an account and 3D Warehouse collection

  1. Create a Google Account for your entry using your name, and your email address you registered for the competition with. If you already have a Google Account, then use it to log into the 3D Warehouse.
  2. Create a collection for your entry.
  • To do this, click on the "Create A Collection" link located on the right-hand side of the 3D Warehouse home page.

  • Important Information:

  • In the Collection Name field, enter your name, and your school name. For example, your collection name would be: "Jane Smith, City University"
  • In the Description field enter "2009 Bridge Modeling Competition entry"

Step 2: Publish your models to the 3D Warehouse one at a time

  • Launch SketchUp (either Free or Pro will work)
  • Open your final and checked model (refer to page 14 of the Best Practices Document for a checklist)
  • Position your model so that the view is attractive. This view will become your model's screenshot in the 3D Warehouse.
Tip: For a cleaner look in the screenshot, you can hide the edges in your model. Do this by deselecting Display Edges and Profiles by choosing View > Edge Style from the menu bar in SketchUp.
  • Choose File > 3D Warehouse > Share model from the menu bar, or click the Share Model button in the Toolbar.
  • The upload screen will appear. Complete the required information about your bridge
Tip: Be sure to add a good description of your bridge, such as who designed it, when it was completed, and other historical information. This meta-data is important to include. This is the information that will appear in the balloon associated with your bridge when it's viewed in Google Earth.
  • Click the Upload button.
  • Your model will begin to upload (this can take several minutes depending on your internet connection and model file size).
  • Note: Each bridge must be published individually. Do not publish multiple bridges as a single model.

Step 3: Add your models to your Collection

After you have uploaded all of your models, be sure to add them to the Competition Collection you created earlier.

  • Ensure that you are logged into the 3D Warehouse with your team's Google Account.
  • Click on the My Models link in the upper-right corner of the screen.

Step 4: Submit your collection

That's it. Good luck!
