If you install Google SketchUp for the first time (Mac or PC), the default shortcuts are automatically turned on. If you want, you can customize the shortcuts, as is discussed later in this article.
If you upgrade from the initial release of Google SketchUp for the PC, the previous default shortcuts are deleted, but the new shortcuts that support all keyboards, including non-US keyboards, are not turned on automatically.
Every subsequent time you install an upgrade of Google SketchUp for the Mac or PC, your current shortcut settings will be preserved, including any custom shortcuts you create.
To turn on the default shortcuts or reset to them:
- Open the "Window" menu ("Google SketchUp" on a Mac).
- Click "Preferences."
- In the left pane, click "Shortcuts."
- In the right pane, click "Reset All."
- Click "OK."
To customize the shortcuts
- Open the "Window" menu ("Google SketchUp" on a Mac).
- Click "Preferences."
- In the left pane, click "Shortcuts."
- In the Function list, scroll until you find a function you want to add a shortcut for, and click it.
- Type the shortcut in the "Add Shortcut" box (on a Mac, it's the box at the bottom of the list). You can use any letter, or any combination of a letter and the Ctrl, Alt, and Shift keys. Avoid standard shortcuts (Like Ctrl+c for Copy, Ctrl+z for Undo, etc., on a PC).
- PC only: After you type the shortcut, click the "+" (Add) button.
- If you add a shortcut that is already being used in SketchUp, a message is displayed saying that the shortcut is already used, and asking if you want to reassign it or keep the original.
- When you are finished adding or changing shortcuts, close the Preferences dialog box. The new shortcuts are preserved when you close and restart SketchUp.
